Tom Cruise has impressed local plane spotters in Cambridgeshire after they spied him performing impressive feats on a classic airplane.

The 59-year-old film star has been learning to fly a 1943 Boeing-Stearman Model 75 – with rumours suggesting he will perform a daring aerial stunt for the upcoming eighth Mission Impossible movie.

Last month, Tom was spotted getting to grips with a 1930s aircraft, while local plane spotters near Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire have now caught a glimpse of the star in action.

The A List star is well known for performing his own jaw dropping stunts – having previously clung to the side of a cargo aircraft for a previous instalment of the long-running Mission Impossible film series.

The 65-year-old plane enthusiast has spoken about Tom’s piloting skills, saying: “He certainly wasn’t dangerous.

“It was also a windy day so as he lands the wind is going across him, which would lift and turn the wings.

“He’s doing a good job as far as I can see. All he’s doing is taking off and doing a circuit within the view of the airport.

“He was probably landing on the grass because it’s better for those types of aircraft.

“There was an element of filming going on. I’m guessing they’re filming Mission: Impossible 8, I know they were filming them back-to-back.”

It is rumoured Tom will be seen in a sky high dogfight for the upcoming action movie.

Last month the star was spotted getting to grips with a Boeing Stearman – after earlier landing a helicopter at Duxford Imperial War Museum – while on a break from filming Mission: Impossible.

An onlooker said at the time: “He was fascinated by it all and had a fly in the Stearman.

“Someone took him up, but I don’t know if they let him take the controls.”

Earlier in the month, Tom caused confusion for a herd of cows when he parachuted into their filed while filming scenes for the film.

A number of the animals toppled over while looking up at him while trying to figure out what was happening.

A source said at the time: “A high frequency noise was used to prevent drones flying near him during the parachute jumps but the tech was very strong and made an entire nearby field of cows fall over.

“Thankfully, they were OK once the scrambling device was switched off.”

Tom reportedly then spent time talking to locals and thanked them “for letting me be in a county of such beauty”.

One said: “We talked about the film and he said he loves parachute jumping, and he’s been hiking here a few times. He wasn’t in a rush to get off and treated us like friends.”
