An inmate was tested and then held at a Hillcrest hospital after searching for a San Diego County Sheriff deputy’s gun and managed to fire.
The incident happened on Scripps Mercy Hospital at 4077 Fifth Ave. around 3:30 p.m., according to Lt. Karen Mullins.
The deputy called for backup, and San Diego police, sheriff’s personnel and hospital security personnel responded, Mullins said.
The MP suffered an unspecified minor injury, he added. Detectives from the detention investigation unit were looking into the incident.
