ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus rules out using their new songs to make third Mamma Mia! film

ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus has ruled out using their first new songs in 40 years to craft a third Mamma Mia! film.

He said the group would not be able to eke out another plotline from their album Voyage, due in November.

Two films and a stage show have made good use of their back catalogue.

But Bjorn, 76, laughed at the idea of a third blockbuster, saying: “I don’t think you could squeeze another story out of that.”

The second 2018 film Here We Go Again was lauded critically, though some noted its feeble plot.

The film, which featured stars including Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried, grossed almost £300million at the box office.

But Bjorn believes they could extend the original run for their 3D Abbatar hologram gigs.

More than 250,000 tickets were sold in three days despite the four stars not appearing on the stage in Stratford, East London.

“Abbatars never tire. They can do 10 shows a day. No private jets. No riders. No worries about voices,” he said.

But he won’t be pulling any moves to Dancing Queen on the first night.

“I used to dance before I became a pop star, to pick up girls,” he grinned, as he launched Credits Due, which aims to upgrade payments in music.

“When I became a pop star, it was redundant.”
